Big respect to every guy and gal that lost their voice in support of the kid. You are definitely not forgotten.

TONIGHT! THE SOCIAL EXPERIMENT M*X CD RELEASE PARTY!

January 22, 2009

null

Ladies and gentlemen —

Social Experiment – The Mix part 2 has been whipped up and is ready for public consumption.

As we’ve seen this party we know and love swell in numbers these past few months, we at Social Experiment are putting it down and giving you guys something back to take home and show your friends what it’s like to get down at Octopus Lounge on a Thursday.

***In celebration of this, we’re giving out 50 hard copies on CD to the first 50 cats that walk through the doors.***

No holds. No special treatment. First come first served.

In the spirit of the first mix released online only back in August ’08, SE2 is a cross section of the music we play every Thursday night. Playfully dubbed “Soulful Experiment,” this mix deifnitely holds down the R’n’B side of things, be it through original samples of hip-hop songs, house remixes, Baltimore club, lover’s rock, or some straight up 90’s ish.

If you feel you can get down with this, by all means mosey on down to the little non descript club off College and Bathurst and get yourself involved in a Social Experiment.

See you Thursday

Soc. Exp. presents THROW DOWN SOME ICE: The “Notorious” Movie Release Party This Thursday

January 13, 2009

This week, Social Experiment, in conjunction with Warner Urban, celebrates the life of Biggie Smalls, and the release of the biopic “Notorious,” in theatres this Friday

Christopher Wallace, aka Notorious B.I.G., fit all the criteria that earned him the distinction of “icon”. A lyrical phenom upon his arrival in ’93, he set his sights high, putting Brooklyn on the map, and hip-hop at the top of the charts. He talked slick and lived lavishly, not leaving a moment wasted. He lived a very fast life, experienced the highs and low of stardom, and was always surrounded by controversy. Gunned down on March 9, 2007, he departed this earth way too soon, but left with him a legacy that retains his relevance in the hip-hop community, 12 years after his death.

In the spirit of all this, Social Experiment pays homage to the best who ever did it, with an extended tribute set, including his many hits, album cuts, guest verses, and rarities.

Raise your glasses as we toast the Notorious Glorious… B.I.G.

“…and throw down some ice for the nicest MC/
n*ggas* know the steelo/
UNBELIEVABLE”

Also celebrating the birthdays of Peachfuzz alumni Arowbe Three Times and Catherine L.

DON’T CALL IT A COMEBACK!

January 6, 2009

Be clear: if we’re getting back into our daily grind, let us not forget about our weekly reprieve: Social Experiment is back!

New Mix in the works too!

IT’S A SOCIAL EXPERIMENT CHRISTMAS!

December 17, 2008

THIS THURSDAY!

December 10, 2008

On Thursday December 11th, Social Experiment and Universal Music Canada fete one of hip-hop’s most consistent and unanimously respected artists: Common, and the release of his latest work: Universal Mind Control.

With a career that spans 15+ years, 8 albums, and a countless number of quotables, Common has told his life story on wax. And by doing so, we’ve watched a man grow and mature into a person we can believe in, and in turn, be inspired by.

From his most introspective verses (“Retrospect For Life,” “Be,” “Resurrection”) to his tales of love (“Come Close,” “The Light,” “I Want You”) and social change (“The People,” “Theme For Assata” “The Sixth Sense”), Common has proven himself a multi-faceted artist, able to speak to you on many levels, but retaining the same level of honesty, emotion, and lyrical prowess with every song.

“Universal Mind Control” is no different, as Common takes his approach to a club setting, making people move, his way. With production by The Neptunes, and appearances by Kanye West, Cee-Lo, and more.

Definitely one of the hottest releases this year.

DJ Mensa provides the tunes, with a special retrospective of Common’s hottest bangers and obscure tracks that deserve their due.

Special giveaways all night long courtesy of Universal Music Canada

Definitely a Thursday night that no one should miss.

See you there
