THE MAIN INGREDIENT this month…featuring RICH MEDINA!!!

January 9, 2009

The Academy and Shaman Fam bring to you The Main Ingredient, a monthly party featuring an array of soul based music. There are a lack of soul dedicated events in Toronto, which are not either R&B, house, or World music dedicated events. The Main Ingredient will pull soulful influences from various eras, regions and music genres. With a reputation locally for creating highly unique events, The Academy and Shaman Fam will cater to Toronto soul fans that have few outlets to enjoy great soul music in the city.

The month of January 2009 will see The Main Ingredient join forces with North America wide event platform FUSICOLOGY and Toronto based floor rockers the FOOTPRINTS crew, to present The Black President. This event will celebrate the life and music Fela Anikulapo Kuti presented by Rich Medina (The Black Present a 1981 album by Fela Kuti) and his traveling party brand Jump & Funk, as well as the January 20th inauguration of United States President Barack Obama.

Jump & Funk (presented by Rich Medina, Philadelphia)

Originating as a partnership party brand in 2001, Jump & Funk was created as a tribute to Fela Anikulapo Kuti and the Afrobeat genre which he presented to the international masses throughout his career. Originally established by highly regarded Philly deejay Rich Medina, Debbie Sealy, and Trevor Schoonmaker, the party received praise and success between 2002 and 2006, including annual appearance at The Winter Music Conference in Miami. The exit of both Sealy and Schoonmaker retired the party in 2006, however Rich Medina decided to rejuvenate the brand in the fall of 2008 in time for Kuti birthday celebrations in Philly, New York and Washington DC.
